Importers need to have a license to import PPE

By Neil Fusedale

Given the widespread need for personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves and sanitisers it is perhaps no surprise that more people are trying to import these products into South Africa. Stocks of PPE have been severely impacted by a global need for these products to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, what needs to be remembered is that these imported products face being confiscated by local import authorities in South Africa unless the importer has a medical service provider license.
